Lollipop Mastopexy: Moderate Lift, Beautiful Refinement
A breast lift provides renewed perkiness and rejuvenation to patients whose breasts have begun to droop. If you are self-conscious about your breasts due to sagging or asymmetry, Dr. Gregory T. Mesna offers a variety of breast lift options. A vertical breast lift, also called a "lollipop" mastopexy due to the shape of the incisions, can correct moderate sagging and result in minimal scarring. Contact our office today to learn more about how a lollipop mastopexy can improve your physique. During your consultation at our Minneapolis, MN, practice, you will have the opportunity to learn more about each type of breast lift before deciding which is best for you.
What Is a Lollipop Mastopexy?
During a lollipop mastopexy, a circular incision is made around the areola and a vertical incision is made from the bottom of the areola to the infra-mammary fold, which is the crease where the breast meets the chest wall. The combination of these two incisions looks like the outline of a lollipop. A donut mastopexy, on the other hand, requires only a circular incision around the areola, while a full breast lift, or anchor mastopexy, requires more extensive incisions than either procedure. A lollipop mastopexy allows your surgeon to remove more skin and tissue than a donut mastopexy, but results in less scarring than a full breast lift.
What Does the Procedure Involve?
This outpatient procedure usually takes from one to two hours, with patients returning home after surgery. During the procedure, we will administer general anesthesia to provide relaxation and minimize discomfort. Dr. Mesna will make two incisions: one around the areola and one beneath it. He will then remove excess skin and tissue, and the areola will be lifted to a higher position. If you choose, Dr. Mesna can also reduce the circumference of the areola by removing tissue. Many patients decide to undergo lollipop mastopexy in conjunction with breast augmentation to enhance size and projection, in addition to achieving a lift.
Breast lift surgery usually causes soreness and swelling for several days. You may be prescribed pain medication to help with the discomfort. You should refrain from performing strenuous physical activities, and you must sleep on your back for several weeks following surgery. Most patients return to work within the first week of recovery, depending on the extent of surgery. Dr. Mesna will provide you with explicit instructions to help you experience a successful recovery.
Am I a Candidate for Lollipop Mastopexy?
Lollipop mastopexy is a good option for patients who desire a moderate amount of lift. If your areola has fallen to the level of the infra-mammary fold or just below it, lollipop mastopexy may work for you. Patients with severe sagging may require more excessive removal of skin and tissue through a full breast lift. Breast lift candidates must be in good overall health to minimize surgery risks.
