Long-term Effects of a Brazilian Butt Lift
In recent years, a firm, round butt has become a standard of beauty. Exercises like squats promise to lift and tone the buttocks, but they aren’t always effective at achieving desired results. When exercise fails to create a prominent posterior, it may be time to consider plastic surgery.
Dr. Gregory T. Mesna offers Brazilian butt lift procedures at our Minneapolis, MN, plastic surgery practice. A Brazilian butt lift adds volume to the backside while improving other body contours. Dr. Mesna is happy to help patients consider the long-term effects of a Brazilian butt lift and determine if the procedure is right for them.
What Is a Brazilian Butt Lift?
A Brazilian butt lift is different than a traditional butt lift procedure. A traditional butt lift removes excess skin and fat from the top of the buttocks to enhance its shape. A Brazilian butt lift transfers fat to the buttocks to create a higher, rounder butt.
The fat transferred during a Brazilian butt lift is collected from other areas of the body, such as the stomach, back, hips, or thighs. By removing fat from the body, a Brazilian butt lift enhances the shape of the backside and improves body contours.
How Long Do Brazilian Butt Lifts Last?
Before discussing the long-term results of a Brazilian butt lift, let us explain the initial treatment results. During the first two weeks following a Brazilian butt lift, patients may lose up to 40 percent of the fat transferred during their procedure. Some degree of loss is completely normal. Dr. Mesna transplants extra fat to the treatment site to account for this loss. After the initial loss, the butt will grow and regenerate new fat cells.
Brazilian butt lift results usually stabilize within three to six months of surgery. Once surgical results have stabilized, our Minneapolis patients should enjoy firm, shapely buttocks for many years. Brazilian butt lift results should last at least five years and many patients continue to benefit from the effects of surgery 10 years after treatment.
What Can I Do to Protect the Results of a Brazilian Butt Lift?
Brazilian butt lift results are affected by many different factors, including the volume of fat transferred and skin elasticity. Post-surgical care practices have a big impact on the long-term effects of a Brazilian butt lift. We recommend our Minneapolis patients follow these tips to protect treatment results:
- Do not smoke for at least two weeks before surgery and at least four to six weeks afterward
- Avoid driving or sitting directly on your rear end for three to four weeks after surgery
- Stay hydrated and eat a nutrient-rich diet
- Avoid strenuous exercise for two months after surgery to avoid burning off transferred fat cells
- Maintain a steady weight
