Plastic Surgery in Your 40s - Maintain a Youthful Appearance
Aging is something that affects everyone differently. This is because aging, and its effect on the appearance, is affected by a number of factors, including genetics, environmental factors, and aesthetic care. Although no two people are likely to notice the exact same effects of aging, it is common for most patients to begin noticing significant changes in appearance once they hit their 40s. It is often around this time that lines and wrinkles deepen, and the skin loosens. Fortunately, there are many plastic surgery procedures, such as blepharoplasty to smooth skin and wrinkles around the eyes, which allow patients to reverse these signs of aging and maintain a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance. For many of Dr. Gregory T. Mesna’s Minneapolis patients, plastic surgery in their 40s allows common signs of aging to be addressed before their appearance is drastically affected. Below are some of the procedures that are most commonly requested by patients once they have reached their 40s.
Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty is more commonly known as eyelid surgery. For most people, the eyes are one of the first areas of the face to change with the effects of aging. Because the eyes are so expressive, it is not a surprise that the skin around the eyes usually begin to develop lines and wrinkles before they show up on other areas of the face. Loose skin around the eyes is another common problem and can lead to heavy, hooded upper eyelids, or puffy bags beneath the lower eyelids. Blepharoplasty can be performed on either the upper or lower lids, or both, to remove excess skin, smooth out the skin, and eliminate some of those lines and creases. Eyelid surgery can eliminate the tired, worn down appearance that many patients experience and restore a more youthful and alert appearance. Eyelid surgery is one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures among our patients in their 40s.
Brow Lift
Again, most signs of aging will develop first around the eyes or on the upper area of the face. This includes the brows and the forehead. For patients who have noticed a drooping brow line and wrinkles across the forehead, a brow lift is ideal. A brow lift, or forehead lift, can raise the eyebrows and smooth out the skin of the forehead to eliminate wrinkles and get rid of the tired or angry appearance that a furrowed brow produces. This procedure is popular among patients in their 40s because it can restore a more refreshed appearance.
Facelift
Typically, patients think of a facelift as a plastic surgery procedure that is not needed until a patient reaches their 50s, or even later. However, it is not unusual for patients in their 40s to undergo a facelift. If the skin of the lower face, chin, and neck are beginning to sag and deep creases have developed, a face lift is the best option for lifting and tightening the skin to reverse these signs of aging.
